A passing low, built up sand  and wind swell are making Pipeline a mess. Conditions have improved and officials are keen to run at least a half day on Sunday. An incoming NW swell is predicted on Monday but the persistent NE and cold wind is pushing water hard right with little shoulder to ride and bad currents to endure.

"This is a drag for the girls who want to be able to surf real Pipeline", said Betty Depolito. "Time is up, Monday is the last day and this east swell looks so dominant. It's busting our dreams but our spirit is high. It does cause a lot of changes in the heats as some competitors have to leave, some come back, some might appear out of thin air to compete.

We will see who endures the long waiting period with no good surf.... I have just been getting up every day and checking the waves", explained Tatiana Weston Webb. "I did get a couple sessions in, I keep my stoke up by watching videos." Kauai's Webb is one of the youngest surfers at 12 and is keen to pull in the tube. "

I want to be one of the first young ones to pull into a barrel and come out", she added. Webb made a great showing last year wowing the crowd with late drops and precision surfing. Also at 12 is Mahina Maeda from Sunset Beach. Look for these two ladies who have been training hard for Pipeline.

"We at the North Shore Soap Factory just want the girls to get a good day. We are cheering for them and we are sure they will prevail in any conditions", said Debora Driscoll, General Manager of North Shore Soap Factory. "Good luck girls!."

Last year's bodyboarding Champion Luz Marie is waiting it out. She arrived in Hawaii not entered in the event but may take an alternate spot because some competitors have obligations in other arenas. Luz Marie hails from Puerto Rico and is the top seed in the USBA National rankings. Pipeline is the first event on this tour.
