NSSA Southeast Explorer Season #7 hits Melbourne Florida

Valentines Day was cold and blustery as winter weather has descended upon surfers in Florida. Sunday the weather cleared up a bit for a day that provided some wind, some warmth and some waves. Surf for Haiti donations continue to come in and we are very grateful. Donations are headed to the Hearts Out To Haiti Mission.
The mission has been in existence for over 10 years supporting 3 parishes in Les Palmes, Morne a Chandelle and Durissy. Special thanks and Congratulations go out to DNA’s Citrus Energy Drink for coming out on Top at the 2009-2010 World Beverage Competition.
DNA wins the Platinum award for best tasting energy drink for 2009-2010. This year’s World Beverage Competition had over 10,000 entrants in all categories from over 30 countries competing for the “Best of Show” Platinum award that is granted to only one winner per category. Good job DNA and mahalo for supporting our conference! Overall team effort by judges, staff, surfers and parents was outstanding and all deserve a huge thanks for all the help with clean up.
Although cold, surfers suited up and paddled out to tackle to stormy conditions.
Chris Tucker was the hands down standout of the day surfing consistently and appearing to all but ignore the challenging conditions. Chris found himself accepting the win for Open and Explorer Men’s but bowed out with a fourth in Explorer Juniors to new member Jackson Hail who stepped up and made personal history by claiming his first NSSA victory. Chris has taken over the ratings race in all three divisions. Keep an eye out for Chris at East Coast Championships in April.
Open Boys winner Luke Marks, Open Mini-Grom winner Stevie Pittman and Open Juniors champ Giorgio Gomez all made it to the top spot and welcomed Sam Duggan to the mix with his win in Explorer Boys.
The women and girls were very diplomatic at this event. Emily Ruppert, who is helping head up the Surf for Haiti drive with her Mom Nancy, came home with the Explorer women’s win while Savannah Bradley took home first for Open women’s and Nikki Viesin’s shared a first with a win in Explorer Girls.
Next event is Contest #8 scheduled for February 27 & 28, 2010 at Pelican Park on A1A in Satellite Beach.
