Miki sells WMA
Miki sells Women’s Motocross Association to increase funding and visibility
As the competitive motocross season comes to a close in Delmont, Pennsylvania on Sept. 5th, a deal closes, and an ownership overturned. Women's Motocross Association (WMA) founder Miki Keller sold the rights of the organization to the AMA Motocross Championship Tour, in which the men compete. The WMA will be restructured as ‘Women's Class.’ Keller founded the association in 2004 and played a key role in positioning women's motocross at major competitions such as Summer X Games 14 which provided an outstanding purse of $100,000.
In conjunction with the men's motocross tour, Women's Class has secured a position at many competitions nationwide that provide adequate sponsorship, purse, and audience attendance.
Recently women's motocross has received more television coverage by the likes of ABC and ESPN. Ashley Fiolek's win at the Women's Moto X Racing X Games this past August of 2009 in Los Angeles, CA earned a substantial amount of coverage by ESPN, however, overall it has been a struggle to secure media coverage of Women's Class.
Miki Keller founded the Women’s Motocross Association (WMA), former President of the United States Women's Motorcycle League from 2000 to 2004 and co-founded Wide Open MX Magazine, the first freestyle motocross magazine. She is still involved with women's motocross and is assisting the transition from WMA to Women's Class.
