Solid, eight-foot surf at Sunset Beach, Hawaii, and only four girls are out in the line-up for the Gidget Pro. The Triple Crown of Surfing in Hawaii is top notch on the world tour and a season highlight for the worlds best in surfing. Every year brings passion to the Hawaiian Islands and this year would be no different.  Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 21, secured her third consecutive world title. Stephanie remained in strong contention for the world title, alongside a handful of hungry surfers starting into the Hawaiian leg of the WCT. Heat by heat, surfers got knocked out while Steph peacefully listened to her headphones in the competitor’s area while the results unfolded in the big Hawaiian surf in front of her.  Once news broke, Steph burst into joy and prepared for the finals. “It’s surreal to win for a third time,” Gilmore said. “It’s amazing! I woke up this morning and knew it was going to be a good day. The waves were building and you sort of get that fuzzy feeling throughout the day. I really don’t even know what to think about it. I just want to thank everyone for the support that I’ve had throughout the whole year.” She is three for three, the only surfer- man or woman- to claim three consecutive titles straight out the gates.
Carissa Moore (HAW),17, won the Gidget Pro. Looking fit and confident in the big Sunset surf, Carissa charged hard and made critical drops to earn her a spot in the finals. This competition called for wave knowledge, and Carissa thanked Sunset local/ pro surfer Pancho Sullivan for assisting her in the water as her caddie. Local knowledge is critical in catching the best waves at Sunset, surfers need correct positioning and the ability to read the Northwest swells from the westerly swells. Carissa showed her strength of reading waves, as well as her fitness. Getting swept by a powerful set can add 15 minutes of paddling to a surfer’s heat.
Alana Blanchard (HAW), 19, better- positioned herself to qualify for the ASP World Tour 2010. The stylish surfer from Kauai placed within the top five of a WCT event for her first time at the Gidget Pro. “It’s my first fifth [finish] and I’m really stoked, I’m really happy it’s at Sunset and Hawaii.” She was accompanied by a handful of other gunning young surfers from the islands, including WCT fourth-ranking Coco Ho (HAW), and Malia Manuel (HAW).  While moving through her heats, Alana knocked out world title contender Silvana Lima (BRA), and strengthened Stephanie’s chances of claiming the title that day.
Sally Fitzgbibbons (AUS),17,  scored a perfect 10.  Sally Fitzgibbons has carried a reputation as the surfer earliest to qualify for the WCT. Now into her second year competing on tour, Sally has finished in the top five, three times prior to Sunset Beach, adding a third place for Gidget Pro. None of the surfers caught a barrel in the solid eight foot surf (not including Pancho’s barrel during Carissa’s victory paddle) but Sally used every wave to maximum scoring potential with her powerful carves and speed. The Australian would go on to score a perfect 10 in her semi final heat against Alana Blanchard, Malia Manuel and Coco Ho. She calls her high scoring rides ‘lucky’ but clearly there’s more the ripper has to offer. The Gidget Pro is the second stop on the Van’s Triple Crown of Surfing. Alana claimed the first jewel in Hale’iwa and remains in contention for the Triple Crown title alongside Carissa. The organization Gidget Worldwide was named after the surfer from Malibu, CA in the late 1950’s-early 1960’s that brought surfing to the silver screen after her father wrote a book on her stoke for surfing. Gidget sponsored the Sunset event to make sure it happened this year, as sponsorship dollars declined with a surffering American economy. Gidget answered the call to action and so the women of the ASP World Tour would compete at the high performance wave on the north shore. GIDGET PRO SUNSET BEACH FINAL RESULTS:
