The biggest competition in female surfing is set to go again with the 18th annual All Girls Surf Showdown running on the superb far north coast of NSW. The best and biggest competition for female surfers in Australia with more surfers and more divisions than any other it’s also the longest running event of its kind and also one of the few surfing events in the world that have always included women on the judging panel.
The event is mobile within the Ballina Shire on the Far North Coast of NSW over the Queen’s birthday long weekend, June 12th, 13th & 14th. It has a three day event window with two days of competition to run which allows for surfers to get the best conditions available. The mix of ages and abilities participating is inspirational. Surfers from 8 years old to over 50 join together in a celebration of women’s surfing.
There are eight divisions to suit all female surfers and five of these will battle it out for prize money totaling $4,000. They are the “Southern Cross Credit Union Open Pro”, “Freeform Board Junior Pro”, “All Girls Surfriders Longboard Pro”, “All Girls Surfriders Over 28” & “All Girls Surfriders Over 40”. The other divisions are the “Hive Swimwear Open B” which caters for club level surfers, “Inner Beauty 16 & Under” and the “Inner Beauty 14 & Under”.
Great prizes and amazing trophies are up for grabs for the finalists. All entrants receive an All Girls Surf Showdown competitors T-Shirt and All Girls Surf Showdown showbag. The Southern Cross Credit Union Open Pro division with $2500 in prize money has an incredibly high standard field and an awesome history of past winners.
Just some of the talents to have won this division include current and 3x World Professional Champion Stephanie Gilmore, Lennox Head surfer and current World Junior Champion Tyler Wright, current World Pro Junior Champion Laura Enever, current number 2 on the World Pro Tour ratings Sally Fitzgibbons and former World Professional Champion Pauline Menczer.
Also on that list is the “All Girls Surf Showdown” co-contest director Jenny Boggis, a Lennox Head local and former World Junior, Australasian Pro Junior, Australian Open and Australian Over 28 champion.
