5 Days left to vote in the 2010 Surfer Poll

This is the final week to vote on the annual 2010 SURFER Poll and Video Awards presented by Samsung and Verizon. With votes coming in from around the world, several new male and female surfers are currently giving the world's best a run for their money.

"We've seen an unprecedented number of votes for this year's Surfer Poll and the preliminary results are very interesting," says SURFER Editor In Chief, Brendon Thomas. "We could see a mass changing of the guard if things continue the way they have been, but with a week to go, anything can happen."

The next 5 days of voting will determine surfing's future, acknowledging the top 10 male and top 5 female surfers of the year, as well as the favorite video of the year. Votes can be cast until midnight on October 15th at SURFERPoll.com. The question on the top of everyone's mind is whether or not Kelly Slater can top the charts for the 16th time. With an invasion of new talent.

Tom Curren's eight wins, and Andy Irons's two consecutive wins in '03 and '04 looming, voters seem to be eager to have their voices heard and perhaps affect change in Slater's consistent reign. Now in its 40th year, the awards are relocating to the North Shore of Oahu during the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing season.

When the who's-who of the industry converge on the traditionally sleepy side of the island. Professional surfers, executives and thrill seekers alike mingle at their leisure while watching gladiator-style world-class surfing. This year, "Surfing's Biggest Night" will be a featured event. This year's awards ceremony will be at an intimate, invite-only ceremony on December 6th at Turtle Bay luxury beach resort. In attendance each year are the world's best surfers of past and present.

SURFER Poll is the premiere event where fans can visit and help solidify history by voting. On Dec. 6th over 40 million households get to relax and watch the LIVE webcast to see which surfers will add their names to the exclusive list of world's best which includes Kelly Slater, Andy Irons, Stephanie Gilmore, Tom Curren, and Lisa Andersen, just to name a few.

The SURFER Poll awards began in 1963 where Phil Edwards became the first winner. They weren't held between 1970 and 1977, but North Shore great Gerry Lopez was symbolically deemed the winner of those lost years.
