U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix Kicks off at Copper Mountain, Colorado
The U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix will kick off Thursday December 10th at Copper Mountain in Colorado where snowboarders will compete on the 22-foot halfpipe. There is heavy pressure on the riders at this event- as it could qualify or eliminate someone for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver 2010.
The competition is the first stop for the five competition series and will feature Olympic champion Kelly Clark (Mt. Snow, VT), Hannah Teter (Belmont, VT), and Olympic medalist Gretchen Bleiler (Aspen, CO). Everyone is shooting for a spot on the 2010 U.S. Olympic halfpipe team.
"It's really important to have this team together, training together, riding together and competing together. It really is the key to our success being together as a team and doing what we do pushing each other."
Also in the mix and expected to drop in with competitive skills are Olympian Elena Hight (South Lake Tahoe, CA) and Colorado native Clair Bidez (Minturn, CO.) Just 75 miles from Denver, Copper's superpipe is traditionally the first of the season to open in the U.S. and will provide riders a perfect pipe in which they can start their Vancouver Bound journey.
