Smoothie Recipe
Smoothies are a great way to get some fuel in your body before engaging in a high impact sport like surfing, skating or snowboarding. They are light and good for you, just what you need to land that trick you’ve been working on.
How do you make a smoothie?
Making smoothies is easy. All you need is a blender, liquidizer, a food processor or a blender. Next you get your fruit. Fresh is good, but canned fruit works just as well. When the weather's hot, why not try frozen too? The best thing about smoothies is that there's no right or wrong way. You make them to suit your taste, using your favorite seasonal fruits.
Absolutely. Cartons of orange, apple and pineapple juice can be used to mix into your smoothies, but if you've got a juicer or juice extractor, that's even better.
Here are a few of our favorite tried and tested smoothie recipes to get you started.
Peanut Banana Smoothie
- 1 small ripe banana, sliced
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter, creamy
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 cup cold milk
- Banana slices and chopped peanuts for garnish, if desired
Preparation:
Set aside a slice of the banana for garnish, and put remaining banana, peanut butter, and honey in a blender. Blend until smooth. Add milk and blend until foamy. Garnish with banana slice rolled in chopped peanuts, if desired. Serve immediately.
Makes about 1 1/2 cups, 1 serving.
Pineapple Smoothie
Take half of a fresh pineapple (or one small one), or one large tin of pineapple in juice. Add one ripe banana and somecoconutmilkor 1 teaspoon ofcoconut extract. Mix all together and blend until super smooth. Garnish with pineapple wedge.
Mango Smoothie
- 1 cup mango, peeled and diced
- 1 cup plain or vanilla nonfat yogurt
- 1/2 cup crushed ice
- Milk, optional
Preparation:
Place mango, yogurt and ice in a blender and action! If too thick, add a little milk.
