Layne Beachley does not need an introduction, if you don’t know who this incredible athlete is by now I’m assuming you don’t call earth home. Layne is one of a few surfers that is a household name, and deservingly so.

Layne has done it all in two decades on tour. She has won seven world titles, towed bigger than 99.9% of us, written a book, started her own company, ran the richest prize purse event in the ASP history, dates a rock star, runs and supports her time with charities. In addidtion to all of her accomplishments, she is one of the coolest down to earth chicks to engage in  a good conversation, she has endless amounts of knowledge on the

history and future of women’s surfing I mean honestly who wouldn’t want to hear what Layne has to say. She has lived it breathed it and conquered it all on her terms and continues to inspire, achieve and change the way women’s surfing progresses just now its without putting on a rash vest. Layno you are a true champion in and out of the water.

AD: With twenty years on tour with more accomplishments than any other female surfer, what does it feel like to finally hang up the contest jersey?

It's a relief to be able to go surfing for the fun of it now without the added expectation and pressure that I have placed on myself over the last 20 years. I'm still competitive by nature but after seeing how well the girls are surfing at the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic I will admit that I feel I have made the decision at the right time as I'm no longer passionate enough to push myself to remain a contender.

AD: Was there any particular one moment that stands out as the pinnacle of your career?

There are so many highlights but winning my first world title definitely stands out as one of the most magical moments. My 7th one was very special too.

AD: Looking back now would you say Pro surfing is all it’s cracked up to be?

From my own experience, I would have to say it is one of the most amazing professions in the world. Of course there are Pros and Cons to every job, but I'm proud to have been labeled as a pro surfer for 20 years. It has taught me so many valuable life lessons, opened my eyes to new cultures and way of life, allowed me to enjoy some of the most amazing waves the world has to offer and has taken me to places and introduced me to people that most would only dream about.

AD: Are you chilling by the pool with a cocktail in hand or focusing on what Layne Beachley can achieve next?

I was last week! I ran to Hawaii for a week and enjoyed cocktails by the pool immediately after the conclusion of my event but now I'm back in front of my computer working like a dog. My new surf brand, Blue Kiss by Layne Beachley launches into Myer Stores nationwide as of Nov 1st so there is a lot of work to be done! Along with my Aim For The Stars Foundation, motivational speaking engagements and all the other charities and organizations I represent, I'm busier in retirement than I have ever been!
