Silvana Lima Leaps in ASP Ratings

Silvana Lima scores her first event win of the year
Claiming the Movistar Peru Classic title launches Silvana Lima (BRA) from seventh to third place, and adds a third ASP event title to her career, making the stylish Brazilian surfer, very, very stoked.

“I feel great!” Silvana exclaimed after exiting the water. “I knew I needed to put up high scores early on because Sally has been surfing so well all event. I have some really good boards and I felt like I have been surfing well. I’m so stoked right now!”

Rounds 2 and 3 completed in Peru : Fitzgibbons Ignites

Rounds 2 and 3 were completed today in two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves at Lobitos.

Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 18, a rookie on Tour and current Women’s World No. 7, was the form surfer of the day. The young natural-footer netted the highest heat total of the event so far, a 17. 85 out of a possible 20, including the event-high single-wave score of a 9.00 in her trouncing of tour veteran Jacqueline Silva (BRA), 30.

Movistar Peru Classic pres. by Rip Curl Called Off, Swell Coming

Competition has been called off for today, with onshore winds and small waves.

“We sat it out for six hours hoping the tide would assist conditions,” Richie Porta, ASP Women’s World Tour Head Judge, said. “Unfortunately, the swell has not fully eventuated. We have all decided it’s worth rolling the dice and hoping for improved conditions and a bigger swell tomorrow morning.”

When competition resumes, up first will be Melanie Bartels (HAW), 27, Megan Abubo (HAW), 31, and Nadja DeCol (PER), 19, in Round 1 of the elimination Round 2.

Top Seeds Dominate Round 1 of the Movistar Peru Classic

Round 1 of the Movistar Peru Classic was dominated by the usual suspects who are the ASP Women’s World Title contenders and top seeds. They made their presence known by staking claim in their intentions in Peru.

 

Movistar Peru Classic Round 1 ON at Lobitos

The Movistar Peru Classic presented by Rip Curl is on with Round 1 commencing in clean two-foot (1 metre) waves at Lobitos.

“We’ve seen a definite increase in swell size plus we have nice, clean conditions so we have decided to run the first round,” Richie Porta, ASP Women’s World Tour Head Judge, said. “Due to the wind that comes up mid-morning, we need to factor in having just half days of clean conditions and so we want to utilize them as best as we can.”
