The Rip Curl Women’s Pro Search commences its waiting period tomorrow, monday october 26 and will run through October 30, 2009.
Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 18, 2009 ASP Women’s World Tour rookie and current ASP Women’s World No. 10, is keen to get back into the contest singlet again and excited about the potential for another solid wave event on the ASP Women’s World Tour.

This Saturday evening, October 24, Surfindian will present "Sea Life", an exhibition featuring artwork, surfboards, and photography by Julie Cox, Nicole Grodesky, Ashley Lloyd, Serena Mitnik-Miller, and Elizabeth Pepin. The exhibition opens with a reception on Saturday evening, October 24, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Live music will be provided at the opening reception by Olivia Rohde. The exhibition will run through November 30, 2009.

A 72-foot blue whale washed up on the rocky cliffs of Mendocino County in Northern California (USA) after being struck by a research vessel, the 78-foot Pacific Star. The crew on board was updating maps of the ocean floor for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), moving 5.5 knots seven miles off the coast when the ship shuddered and a blue whale surfaced, bleeding profusely, said Joe Cordaro, a NOAA biologist.

The Rip Curl Pro Search is a special event and already has a special history. Very few surfers have never heard about it (remember the 2006 edition of the contest where we saw some of the best waves seen in a surf competition so far). Mobility and unpredictability make this event the one to not miss.
This edition has already entered history in two ways : this is the first time a Rip Curl Pro Search is organized for women and last night the contest site has been completely smashed by a 15 foot storm swell !

The Boardfest Fall Frenzy ’09 in Huntington Beach, CA is postponed.
Event coordinators have not yet announced a new date, it would have been the first time both men and women compete in surf, skate and snow at Boardfest.

You may worry about a shark fin looming near you in the water, but what about great white sharks in the air? Horizons West surf shop owner/ photog Randy Wright captured a sequence shot as an 8-10 foot great white shark breached about 300 yards off shore in Los Angeles, CA (USA). It was the second time a shark was spotted breaching along the coast that week.
Wright was in the water as a volunteer for the nonprofit Shark Research Committee, to conducts research on sharks and documents attacks on humans.
